Poppy Cat greenlit for second series announces Coolabi

Leading children’s and family entertainment producer and rights management company, Coolabi, is excited to announce a second season of its much loved and hugely popular pre-school series, Poppy Cat.

Season Two, comprising of 52 x 11 minute episodes, follows on from the international success of Season One, which has been sold to almost 150 territories worldwide, and is a top ten rated show in the UK, US, France and Poland.

Poppy Cat is co-produced by Coolabi’s television production arm, Coolabi Productions, and the Emmy shortlisted and BAFTA award-winning, King Rollo Films, with commissioning broadcasters, Nick Jr. in the UK and Australia, andSprout in the US. CAKE is also confirmed as the international distributor for the second series, following triumphant results with Season One. Production for the animation is already underway with new and exciting storylines, characters and backgrounds, with delivery to broadcasters expected in Spring 2014, and TX later next year.

“We are ecstatic that Poppy Cat has become such a hit with pre-schoolers and their families and Coolabi is thrilled to be producing a second series with our partners, Nickelodeon and Sprout,” said Zoe Bamsey, Director of Development and Production, Coolabi. “Poppy Cat encourages little ones to turn their everyday routines into extraordinary adventures, and the series will also be supported by exciting product lines available for consumers!”

Nick Jr. is the perfect home for Poppy Cat and her adventurous spirit,” said Tim Patterson, VP, Director of Programming Nickelodeon UK and Ireland. “We look forward to premiering brand-new episodes for UK audiences in 2014.”

Ed Galton, CCO & Managing Director, CAKE says, “Distributing Season One has shown us that Poppy Cat has the potential to be a true modern classic. The market has really responded strongly and we look forward to extending our association with the brand with a second season.”

Joining the fabulous feline, Poppy Cat, on her adventures, is her colourful group of merry friends, Egbert: the badger, Alma: the rabbit, Mo: the mouse, Zuzu: the dog and Owl: the owl. They embark on lots of exciting expeditions through magical lands in submarines, pirate ships, hot air balloons and rockets.

Seen through the eyes of Poppy’s young owner, a little girl called Lara, each story is a celebration of imaginative play and problem solving. Told with humour and great heart, these fun-filled stories encourage children to develop their own imagination and creativity.

Bringing the on-screen experience to life for UK fans, Poppy Cat joined Nickelodeon Land in Blackpool in June to meet and greet youngsters, as well as hosting a story time every day. Families can also ‘Copy Poppy,’ where little ones are encouraged to dance along with the costume character on the Nickelodeon Land stage.
