Beast Quest awarded ‘Best Book to Game’ at inaugural Cameo Awards

Last night (13th March, 2016), international rights owner Coolabi Group and Orchard Books, part of the Hachette Children’s Group, picked up the award for Best Book to Game, for the Beast Quest mobile gaming app, co-produced by Coolabi and Miniclip.

The game, which has achieved over 8.3 million global downloads since launch is available on iOS, Android and Windows Phone. It is an open world role play game with character progression, which eventually takes the player through each of the worlds featured in the first book series.

The Beast Quest books were launched in July 2007 by Orchard Books and have to date sold 16 million copies globally, with 11 million copies in the UK alone. This year, the company is celebrating ten years of Beast Quest publishing with a rolling schedule of events.

The brand and writing team worked together with the developer to devise new characters needed for the game. These characters will now also appear in the new series of books.

The CAMEOs (Creativity Across Media: Entertainment & Originality Awards) are a collaboration between London Book & Screen Week and the Publishers Association to recognise the integral role books play within the creative industries as an inspiration for plays, film, TV and games.

The CAMEO Awards said of Beast Quest: “Beast Quest has been enormously successful both in print and game format with over 8.3 million downloads to date. The judges felt that the beautiful design and richness of gameplay in this app put it on a level with some of the biggest video games available, offering players multiple levels and a depth beyond expectation for a book adaptation.”
